
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956. He is an American actor as well as filmmaker and director. Popular for his comedic and dramatic roles, he's one of the most admired and well-known film stars around the world and is considered an American cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother's clan, surnamed "Fraga", was entirely Portuguese and his father had English origins. Tom grew up in what he describes as a "fractured" family. He was not an actor in college , and credits the difficulty he faced to get cast in a college play with actually starting his professional career. He went downtown, and took part in a community production of a theater, and was then invited by the director of that play to go to Cleveland, and there his acting career started
